IVS Grand Prix News and Update

The new Rules offering points for non-IVS Grab Prix events and Volunteering have, in general, been well received.

Several race participations have been reported, along with images or urls ( website links) of confirming results.

Volunteering is much harder for the GP Staff to track, as the Volunteers must notify us of the volunteer activities each time an activity is performed, as the GP Staff has no access to any records of volunteer serviced performed.

Steamboat Start and Kid's Series Volunteers: Please notify the GP Staff each day of Volunteer Service - The GP Staff cannot assume each volunteer will be present every day of the event - things, like illness, work, vacations, and other personal business, happen, and some people miss some of the days, while others volunteer only for a day or two.

Some people tell a GP Staff member of an event verbally ... sometimes these communications are forgotten or remembered incorrectly.  Notification in writing helps records to be kept correctly, and is a reference if/when the inevitable happens.

Grand Prix Participants are responsible for checking the Grand Prix Spreadsheet to ensure that their  Race and Volunteer points have been correctly entered.  the GP Staff makes every effort to enter the points correctly, but mistakes and omissions happen - when mistakes or omissions happen, the Staff is eager to correct them, but must be notified.... preferably by text message, email, or FB PM.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.   Together we can make this year's Grand Prix Series the BEST EVER.

If anyone has questions, comments, or suggestions, please do share them with us.

Illinois Valley Striders is excited to present the IVS 50k Challenge as a new IVS Grand Prix event in 2019!

    The rules are simple:

(#1) Be a club member and entered in the Grand Prix.  The website is https://www.ivs.org/join for non-members and https://www.ivs.org/Renew-Membership if you haven't renewed yet.  Grand Prix registration is at https://www.ivs.org/event-3099111.

(#2) Complete IVS Grand Prix races totaling at least 50k in 2019: this can be any combination of 5k, 10K, 10 miles, half marathon or trail race.

What do we mean by "Grand Prix" race?  There are a number of official IVS Grand Prix Series races every year. These are the races that are officially recognized as Grand Prix races by our running club.  Non Grand Prix races won't count toward the total for this challenge.

IVS Grand Prix Races are labelled "GP" on line 2 of the IVS Grand Prix Schedule.

When you have completed any combination of Grand Prix races totaling at least 50k, you will get a SWEET finisher's prize for your efforts!  (This will be awarded during our annual Awards meeting in February.)

We hope you will join us for this new challenge in 2019!  See you at the starting line!

IVS welcomes the Yates City Gazebo Run 5k,  August 17, complete with IVS GP Discount,  to the IVS Grand Prix Series.  The Gazebo Run is one or the finest (and few remaining) small home town runs ever.  No fancy chip timing or online registration, no registration cut offs or scaled price increases, no fancy media event hype - just a fine small tone 5k race starting and ending in the city park, moving out of the town onto country roads, looping  around the countryside and fields and back again.   Don't miss this great small town race.   Mail in or race day registration.  Note the Grand Prix discount Code on the race registration form, and subtract $5.00 from the registration price.  Not an IVS Grand Prix Participant?  Register NOW!
