Bradley runners have served as the course monitors for the IVS Half Marathon, and IVS has helped Bradley host its cross country meets. After 16 years of coaching Cross Country and Track at Bradley University, Dave Beauchem is moving to Macomb to coach the Cross Country and Track Programs at Western Illinois University. During his tenure at Bradley, Beauchem coached 35 All-Missouri Valley Conference performers (12 in cross country), three NCAA Championship qualifiers and 10 individuals who won conference track and field titles. Mary Ellen Hill, one of the three NCAA Championship qualifiers Beauchem coached, advanced to the national meet on six occasions. ? The 1998 MVC Cross Country 'Coach of the Year',?Dave coached the Bradley women to the conference championship that season. He oversaw Bradley playing host to three NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional meets. Dave's teams have also excelled in the classroom. In 2003 and 2005 the women's cross country team was recognized for the nation's best grade point average among NCAA Division I programs. He has coached six Academic All-Americans and national scholar-athletes. ? In addition to his coaching success at Bradley, Dave has been very instrumental in building a very strong relationship between the University and the Illinois Valley Striders. ? Marc Burns will be replacing Dave at Bradley. Marc, who boasts 14 years of experience as a Division I head coach, comes to The Hilltop after spending the last four years at Valley rival Wichita State as men's and women's cross country head coach, while also serving as assistant coach for the Shockers men's and women's track and field teams. ? Prior to Wichita State, Burns was head cross country and track and field coach at his alma mater, Loyola University in Chicago. During his 14-year head coaching career, he has coached three All-American runners, more than 70 conference individual champions, seven cross country conference team champions and three Academic All-Americans. His teams also have excelled in the classroom, garnering 25 national All-Academic honors. ? A native of Wheeling, Ill., Burns was head cross country and track and field coach at Loyola for 10 years prior to taking over the Wichita State program. During his tenure with the Ramblers, he led the men's cross country team to its first-ever NCAA Championship berth in 2005 and guided teams to three Horizon League cross country team championships.
