What is IVS Track
and Field?
IVS Track and Field is a summer track and field program
sponsored by the Peoria Park District and the Illinois
Valley Striders.
The program provides general conditioning and training in running and field
events. Proper warm-up, stretching, and cool-down techniques are taught along
with basic track and field skills and rules. Athletes are grouped according to
age, event, and skill level. Fitness testing and time trials are used to
monitor the athlete’s progress toward goals.
Who is IVS Track
and Field?
IVS Track and Field is athletes, coaches, and
contributors working together to develop the sport of track and field in the
Peoria area. Athletes fall into three groups: Youth (ages 7-18), Open (ages 19
and up), and Masters (ages 30 and up) with each working toward their individual
goals. The coaches are area school and lay coaches whom enjoying teaching track
and field athletes. Contributors are those who make a difference behind the
scenes by sponsoring low-income athletes or providing transportation or other
services.
What does it cost and
what do I get?
IVS Track and Field membership costs $30 for park
district residents and $35 for non-residents. The program provides 16 sessions
of track and field instruction. All participants receive a t-shirt, a water
bottle, and a static window sticker. Participants receive entry into select
meets. A copy of a Youth participant’s birth certificate is required for entry
into meets.
Okay! When and where?
IVS Track and Field takes place Tuesday and Thursday
nights from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. starting June 5th and running through
July 26th. Practices are held at the Woodruff High School Track or
the newly resurfaced Manual High School Track depending on what events they
compete. On Saturday, July 28th, a Picnic Party will take place at
the Glen Oak Park Pavilion to recognize all of the athletes.

training groups. Those interested in contributing to the program or providing
